I do think the main stream Republicans are worrying about Newt being elected. George Will just ripped him a new one in his column yesterday. It was pretty vicious. Michael Gerson was most uncomplimentary as well.

You don't get it. If he called Newt out on bad behavior, all eyes and lazy reporters would be right back on his doorstep dragging back up all his wife's antics.

I dont think he was slaming Gingrich. I think he was trying to not appear to be a "hater". He complimented Obama personally and then attacked the policies that he disagreed with. I noticed that Ari Fleischer (sp?) did the same thing on CNN - went all goo goo on foreign policy but was like a rabid dog on all the domestic stuff in the speech. Could this be a new strategy??

I don't remember that part of the speech (I was in and out of the living room doing chores at that point). But I don't think Daniels would slam anyone on family issues -- his own wife left him for an old boyfriend, divorced him, married the other guy, then came back and they eventually remarried. Not saying these are the same thing, but I just don't think Daniels would go there.

My first thought when he was complimenting Obama about his family was that it was a direct strike at Gingrich and his many affairs and wives.
