Last year we sent him to Georgetown Hill in the Darnestown campus. They barely had any children enrolling that summer, and essentially combined all the children-- from age 2 all the way until 6. His areas of need are primarily social. His language development has been in the average range, but we're now noticing some lack in social interaction (he can be too withdrawn and content to play or speak with himself) as well as pragmatic language.

He certainly needs a little extra modeling and facilitating with a staff who can help him engage a bit more with his peers.

I agree with PP. It might really have been his age. My ds is speech delayed. He had problems with summer camp at 2.5 and 3.5. I think the boisterous nature of summer camp is harder for children with speech/language issues. Does your ds do well in preschool? If so, I wouldn't be too concerned. My ds (who is now 5) sounds very similar to yours.

Where did you send a 1.5 year old if it was last summer? Maybe it's his age not where you sent him?

Yes, Children's Learning Center was good for my SN DD.

Check out the Children's Learning Center in Rockville. They have a summer camp program and are pretty accommodating with SN kids, from what I've seen and heard.

We've been very happy with their program (both pre-school and summer) for our NT child. It's a Jewish school, but many families (including us) are not Jewish, and I think the summer program has even less (or no) emphasis on the Judaic aspects of the typical curriculum.

Can anyone recommend a good summer camp (or preschool operating in summer months) with great teacher/student ratio in MOCO? We had a bad experience with a summer camp last year and certainly don't want to make a similar mistake again this time around! My 2.5 son is pretty bright, quite anxious and shy, and has some delays in pragmatic language and social interactions. I am looking for a 2-5 day/week program for a couple of hours a day. His current preschool finishes in May and doesn't start back up until September, so ideally we'd like to continue his exposure to a structured, social environment over the summer months if possible.
