I use a series of books called "What Your Preschooler Should Know," etc., up through 12th grade. It's by the Core Knowledge Foundation. I'm not teaching at home, per se, but I wanted to make sure that the curriculum my son's day care/preschool/elementary schools were using was on par with a set of standards. I supplement his formal education when I think it's fun and/or necessary. And it gave me some great ideas for picture books (and later early chapter books). It also shows ways of teaching the alphabet, etc.

I also used Brain Quest flash card sets from age 3, I think. It was a lark, and I wasn't going to push it unless my son seemed to enjoy them. And he really did. For about a minute a day.

But at that age, it's more about just reading books together daily. Singing songs. Going out and experiencing nature and art, etc. Get a refrigerator magnet set of the alphabet. Put up a sign in her room with her name. Print his name in the front of books while he watches. Make sure he sees you reading and writing.
