Sorry you got into the game a little too early. Heck, I can remember 10 years ago when no middle-class parent would consider sending their kid to Maury. Now you've got folks who opted out early a few years ago. Who knows what things will look like in another 6-7 years. Things stay the same until they change. Don't let your poor timing sour your personality.


Pp here. My kid is in Kindergarten! Am I really early? How long is this plan going to take??

I live two blocks away from E-H and I know one family who has sent their kids there. I am not writing the school off, but it would be nice to hear more factual positives and see more diversity there.

Maury upper grade parent here: We love Maury! The offerings for 4th and 5th graders are amazing, well worth the gamble on middle schools if there even is one. Maury's graduates have traditionally sought to go on to Hardy or Stuart-Hobson but I'd say in the last year or two significantly more parents of college bound children, parents I trust, have picked and invested in Eliot-Hine.

16:03 here -- we have been on Capitol Hill for years and have always been told to put your kids in the local schools, middle schools are coming, etc. Never materializes.

Even many of the Cluster kids opt out of Stuart Hobson. To think that this will all turn around in 5 years? Doubtful.

I would absolutely send my kids there with the understanding that the middle school options may not be there. My nephew is there and my SIL (who is a teacher at a top private) is very happy.

The lack of good middle schools are absolutely a concern and are "draining" upper grade kids across Capitol Hill. CHIPSO and DCPS developed an extensive middle school plan to change the trend. It will take a few years to be implemented, but there are a lot of families committed to making it work.

What age? We got out (gladly) becaues it leads to no where. Most parents with kids in older classes do the lottery each year in the hopes of making the jump out -- though they won't tell you that at a Maury event.

Great school, especially in the younger grades. Tons of family involvement and a great principal in a newly modernized building.

Middle school options (or lack thereof) is a problem.
