Will you have a hand mixer? I would pick the processor if so.

I bake, but I spent quite a few years with only a hand mixer and a food processor. (It will be a happy day when you can get your stand mixer, but you can definitely get along without one, especially if you don't bake much.)

You can make some doughs (pie crust, pizza dough) in the food processor, if you're just getting one I would go with that. I use mine all the time.

I only have the food processor and I do find it great for cooking. I would love a stand mixer but I don't bake that much so it doesn't seem worth it. I have a hand mixer but that doesn't get great results. The upshot is that I can't make merengines but really am not missing much else. I have made pie dough with the paddle attachment in the food processor and it worked well.

I am debating with myself what to get (budget and space allow one of the two at this point in time) a stand mixer or a food processor? I do not do major baking, minimal but when I do i feel it would be nice to have the mixer. If you have both, or one of them, what type of foods do you prepare with the stand mixer / food processor? Can you make dough with the food processor? If you have the stand mixer, do you only use it for dough? what other things do you make with it?
