A friend's kid referred to these schools as:

"White-man High School" and "Wonton High School"

I've hear they are both good, but that pressure on the kids re: grades is extensive.

For some reason I could not quote the message, but no one under 45 can buy a house in the Whitman cluster?! That would be a clear violation of Fed. housing laws. Anyone actually had this experience and how wad it put yo them that they could not buy the house the afford?

Wootton's parents are younger and more relaxed, Whitman are a bunch of older helicopter parents

The % of kids taking the AP classes is not the # you need to look at, look at the test scores and the grades they get.

Wondered how long it would be before disgruntled Whitman grad would pipe up. Love that you are an expert on every other school in the county too.

I find it hard to believe that the Wooton parents are any less involved than the Whitman parents, particularly given the larger potential tiger parent group. And frankly the involved parents is one of the things I like about Whitman.

Ridiculous. All your link proves is that the Whitman students were caught. If you think that Wootton students don't drink then you are out of touch.

Your "older parents" comment is perfectly logical. I know for a fact that if you are a high school parent that you are not allowed to buy a house in the Whitman district if you are under 45.

At Whitman you would get a more rounded experience. They have a fantastic online newspaper, every kid I know is involved in some kind of activity, and they all seem happy.

Wootton is full of Asians. At least 60%. They don't participate in school activities and are don't associate with any students outside of their race.

I'll add to the diagnosis: racism.
An enema would definitely be good therapy.

SATs:
Whitman 1879
Wooton 1822

AP enrollment:
Whitman: 92.9% of students
Wooton: 91.1% of students

% scoring 3+ on APs:
Whitman 75.5
Wooton 76.9

So Whitman has higher SATs and slightly more kids taking APs while Wooton does slightly better on the APs they take.

Thanks for the info.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Pressure-cooker either way.

Everyone at Whitman is happy?

No Asian participates in school activities?

How very discerning of you. How humane and thoughtful.

Agree with this. I live in this cluster. Our elementary school is 55% Asian but that changes by middle school (Cabin John). Wootton's culture is not my favorite, however. There is so much focus on academics, it leaves little room for anything else. If a child isn't in AP classes and on that highly-competitive academic track, it's difficult to fit in anywhere.

We are right on the edge of the district and I hope we get rezoned for Quince Orchard, which seems more well-rounded to me.

But if your are trying to move into a top-performing cluster, you won't go wrong with either "W."

From an academics point of view (test scores, ability of student body etc) which one do you think is better?
