Thanks for the support. I realize this is all a little I Love Lucy and feel silly about it, but what can I say? I might fess up to my girlfriends over a margarita this weekend.

Specific question: What kind of file? Like a metal file? What would I ask for at the hardware store? We actually have a mouse and mouse droppings under the dishwasher, so this would be perfect. We caught a mouse a couple of days ago.

OP, I know how you feel. I don't have a multi-millionaire husband, but I do know about trying to talk sensibly with DH about what type of purchases to make, and to not make. I know exactly why you feel the need to take on this covert operation. Stuff gets broken....

If you cut the power at the breaker, you should be ok. Even better if you can figure out a way to disconnect the wire at the wall, so you can SEE that it is unplugged instead of relying on the breaker switch.

I might use a file instead of scissors, though, in case he inspects. Make it look like rodent damage.

OK, don't cut the wire because I don't know the answer and I don't want you to die.

Handwash a few plates and glasses and don't clean them all the way. Then serve him his dinner/drinks in them. Before he eats or drinks from them, say, "Oh shit, that's not clean!" And then "I've been having a problem with the dishwasher lately. I think we need a new one."

Would that work?

Is it okay to cut wires using scissors or a knife if you cut the power at the breaker and confirm that no power is coming in because the appliance isn't turning on?
