Alcohol comes from sugar. The higher the sugar, the higher the alcohol content. Some cancers feed off sugar.

Have you checked out the book Anti-Cancer? It was a great resource for my best friend, Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer, Stage 3 Uterine Cancer. Cancer-free two years now!

Thank god you believe in scientific based treatments. Too many desperate people fall for the insane claims of natural cancer cures, ignoring medical advice and end up dying. I watched a documentary Primetime did on these supposed natural healers. Very sad story of a women who ignored her doctor's advice to remove cancer from her breast in a very early stage with some huge chance of recovery and went to some healer. It spread and she died. A friend's aunt died after refusing conventional treatments and insisting that herbs would cure her cancer. As long as your doctor doesn't think the changes will hurt and it makes you feel better, why not.

I agree with 13:25 that you have to be smart (especially when it comes to supplements), but just because a doctor does not believe in nutrition's role in healing, does not mean nutrition does not play a part. There are very, very few physicians who have ever been taught anything other than traditional western medicine. I have a family member with advanced lung cancer and he is thriving, in part, because of his total diet overhaul. Of course, we'll never know exactly what helped the most, but when according to traditional medicine you are given only months to live and instead your cancer is now undetectable, I believe that some credit must go to the positive effects of nutrition. He is, for the most part, following the Gerson therapy.

Please be really careful with this. Many "natural" things are very harmful (think poison ivy, botulism, lead.) Also, the thinking behind it could be very harmful to you if the cancer comes back. Will you end up blame yourself for not following some diet perfectly, or not finding exactly the right diet.

My DH is a year out from being treated for a rare form of lymphoma, and when I asked the doctor if there was anything he could do diet, exercise, etc. to keep it from reoccurring he said point blank there was nothing we could do. He did recommend a healthy diet, avoiding all alcohol, exercise and sunscreen, but that was to help prevent other types of cancer. Sometimes there is nothing you can do but wait.

Also, if you are in treatments please do not take any supplements without running it past your oncologist.

Breast Cancer survivor. I've made general improvements, but exercising regularly and cutting out alcohol are two specific changes. (Actually, I exercised before cancer, but now I feel like it's even more important.)

OP again-thanks for getting back to me! This sounds like what I have read about and there is some good research to suggest these changes are worthwhile! You are completely right, even if it doesn't help, it can't hurt and I'm thinking it helps prevent other issues that could pop up.

The whole soy thing has me confused. Some say it's bad because of hormone issues, etc, but others are pro. I try to only have non-GMO soy and limit the amount I eat in a week.

I dont remember all the supplements, but I'll ask. Definitely vitamin D with a target blood level of 60-80. I think current recommendation is 30-50.

Yes to fruit. No to milk sugars, most breads (were allowed things like sprouted spelt?), no red meat, lots of dark leafy greens like kale, lean cuts of white meat, fish. So they were eating things like soy cheese. Organics encouraged.

To PP-thanks!

Do you know what the supplements were? I assume vitamin D was one of them. I have read the whole cancer feeds on sugar thing before. Were they allowed to eat fruit?

My family went to this guy. The diet is very healthy, IMO, but can be difficult. It's almost no sugar, under the theory that cancer feeds on sugar. Family members had ovarian, lymphoma, and lung cancers. The ND also prescribed a lot of vitamin supplements and checked blood work once a month. He worked with my family's various oncologists, so it was truly complementary medicine. I was worried because I didn't want them taken in by an opportunist. I can't say if these theories are real, but IMO they did no harm and may even have helped.

Could you post the type of cancer you had and what changes you made. To be clear-I believe in conventional medicine, but I want to learn more about this as a supplement. Did you make nutrition changes? What do you think helped you the most besides the chemo or surgery or what haveyou.
