If the 81 refers to the 81st %ile, that is not a low processing speed score. It's above average. The 75th %ile is the top of the average range. Now if you mean a standard score of 81 (10th %ile), then there would be some concerns.

81st percentile is not low, just lower. Unless it's below, say, 63rd, it's not an issue.

That processing score is a big red flag. I'm sure you'll be able to get some accommodation from the schools (the schools should give her double the time for completion of tests aand assignments). You might want to consider medication. Some doctors will prescribe medication similar to brain viagra that'll get that processing speed back up there. Good luck, it could be worse. Imagine if the FSIQ was 90 percentile.

Are you giving us the raw score or the percentile score, OP ? For example: Verbal Comprehension 99; if that is raw score that is 48th percentile. If it is 99th% , you are fishing for a compliment.

OP - you have no reason to worry about these scores. They are great - ignore the processing speed folks. Forget the scores all together because you have a lot more work to do. Focus on prepping for the playdates and getting to know the admissions staff. I've been where you are at - first phase - get the scores. They are good. Now - focus on the rest and good luck!!!

Nonsense. Most human beings have an average processing speed and 60% of gifted children will test average or even slow in that category due to perfectionism. 3 1/2 year olds to 4 years olds also don't hold a pencil too well. My DC tested average in that category and got straight 9's 5 years later on the 3rd grade ERB, missing none in math or reading comprehension. If she had a learning disability related to processing speed, I'm sure she could not have scored in top 4 % of test takers on the ERB ( a timed test). And, that was with absolutely no kumon or tutoring nonsense.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but in our case, with similar scores, we should have paid attention to that difference.

Please, everyone, give OP a break -- s/he may have no idea about what the scores mean, what norms are in DC, etc.,.

OP, here's the scoop: the scores can be high as the sky or far below these and your child may or may not get into the private school you choose. (Ours had scores in excess of these and was not admitted to either of the schools to which we applied for PK; the next year her scores went even higher and again she did not get into one of the schools to which we applied although she was admitted to others.) We don't know why she wasn't admitted -- but we DO know that there is not enough space at many of the schools for all the children who apply. To that end, don't stress too much about the scores -- they are what they are. Focus on trying to find the best fit for your family and child and do your best not to get your heart set on anything.
