Please don't waste the hazelnuts on the squirrels. They're pretty expensive and the squirrels are not worthy.

Have you considered maybe using the hazelnuts in a rice pilaf or biscotti? Hec, bring them to my house. I'd love to have them (they're my favorite in case you can't tell)

OP here-- we have both black and brown squirrels roaming our backyard, is one color tastier than the other? Or I could wait until spring and feed the nuts to the bears...

Feed them to the squirrels.

Then kill, skin and cook the squirrels. You will need two per person - not because they are so small, but because they are so delicious. Good recipe here:

Bon Appetit - dear lord, I guess it's time to go home. Here is the tart - maybe you can get away with the salted hazelnuts if you eliminate the salt in the caramel sauce:

Humm - I was going to suggest a chocolate, hazelnut tart that was in Bon Appetite a year or two ago. You could try it.

A friend gave me a bag of toasted and salted hazelnuts--I don't really like eating nuts out of hand, so looking for some recipes to use them up, but since they're salted, it might be a little tricky. Thoughts? Or should I rinse them to remove most of the salt?
