I'm sure the school principals would work with you.

No, just moving within FCPS. But not knowing for certain where we'll end up buying, I could not have made that deadline. We plan to move over the summer.

Although both schools are great, the Canterbury Woods is stronger in general. My kids went to both and we love CWE better.

Will you be new to FCPS? The June 1 deadline doesn't apply in that case.

Oh, wow. We wouldn't move until next month if we decided on that area.

The deadline for pupil placement requests (aka "student transfer") was June 1 - http://www.fcps.edu/dss/osp/StudentRegistration/student-transfer/

The Canterbury Woods ES principal has allowed for pupil placement for younger siblings of AAP Center students this year. At the May AAP orientation, she said that it would be offered again for next year as well.

Follow up question - does Canterbury Woods have any crowding issues? Might they be open to pupil placing younger siblings that would otherwise attend Wakefield Forest?

I just asked about this on the AAP forum and then decided to search and found this thread. This is helpful.

The current fifth graders did not have enough kids to form a local level IV for 2009-2010 school year.

For the 2010-2011 and 2009-2010 school years there were combined grade classes for the local level IV classes. I don't know about this year.

Wakefield Forest is a great school overall. I have kids at both Wakefield Forest and Canterbury Woods and I love both schools. We did only one year of level IV at Wakefield Forest then switched to Canterbury Woods. The main thing I did not like about the local level IV at Wakefield Forest was that every year there always seems to be some uncertainty as to what was going to be offered the next year due to number of kids staying and funding. The principal was very honest about the situation upfront. Canterbury Woods doesn't have the funding issues like Wakefield since it is an AAP center. The AAP teachers at Canterbury Woods are wonderful and I honestly think it is a better fit for my kids in the AAP program. I can't comment on the current level IV teachers at Wakefield Forest because I don't know anything about them. The AAP teacher my child had in third grade is no longer at the school.

Most kids switch to Canterbury Woods. There was one year (might have been two years ago) where the Wakefield Forest principal decided to not offer Local Level 4 as there were not enough students to make a large enough peer group.

Anyone have experience with this local level IV vs sending the kid to canterbury woods center? how many level IV classes per grade at wakefield? is it filled with mostly AAP kids?
do most kids stay or switch to canterbury woods? we are already AAP, just thinking about moving to that area. thanks
