np. And I'm guessing that if OP truly had three million dollars to spend on a home, that OP wouldn't need to come to an anonymous message board that isn't even about real estate, really, in order to learn the difference between 2 neighborhoods.

I'm guessing if the OP doesn't understand the differences (HUGE) between GF and Kalorama, then I'm guessing s/he doesn't understand the way top private schools work in the DC Metro area.

Woah - harsh!

I'm the poster who had the prior comment about the schools. For the most part, I think the OP's general preference with respect to suburban vs. urban lifestyle should drive the decision. But, one aspect of suburban life in GF is that people need to drive everywhere, and that often includes driving to private schools in Maryland and DC. Hardly a deal-killer, but just one more thing the OP may need to consider. Even Potomac School in McLean is a decent drive from some parts of GF.

Why wouldn't schools still be an issue? Most of the area privates are closer to DC than to Great Falls."

I'd guess the biggest difference is commute, right? And that depends on what side of the river you work. If you do a lot of large scale receptions and other entertaining at home - which homes at that price point suggest - then catering and staff may be easier to arrange in Kalorama it may well be easier for guests to get to.

Do you want a big yeard? Do you like to garden? Do you like a good amount of distance between you and your neighbors? - Great Falls

Do you like being in the city? Do you prefer being close to restaurants, museums, retail? Traffic and DC gov't? - Kalorama

These areas are not very similiar.
