The nursing staff will surely be muttering 4 letter words under their breath as they will be tripping over DH and his bulky air mattress to check on you and the baby overnight/morning etc.

Is there a reason DH can't go home? Surely, you can function without him in a well staffed, well trained, safe, clean, caring hospital environment during the overnight hours.

Um - have you actually delivered at Sibley and experienced the night nurses there?

I delivered there last year. Not sure what your experience was but all of the nurses (night and day) were wonderful.

Why is the floor any worse than the fold out chairs or couches they have in the rooms? The floor is probably easier for them to actually get clean. I'm half snarky, half serious on this one. If anyone has a reply, thanks for humoring me.

To answer your question - if the post partum rooms are anything like the other rooms, no there won't be any space for it. Also, he'll be in the way of the nurses that come in to monitor you every hour or two.

Sure. You can just lay it down on the floor that is encrusted with mutated and immune strains of staph and pneumoccal bacteria. It is just one big petri dish. Enjoy!

An air mattress, really?

Have the people who are telling me to let him go home had c-sections and sent their DHs home? I always heard that if you have a c-section, you can't pick up the baby for a few days. So what did you do overnight if your DH went home?

Just let him go home and get some rest.

No idea what Sibley's policy is, but my single room there wasn't big enough to fit an air mattress. My husband did not find the foldout chair to be so comfortable, but he managed.

Our room had a couch that folded out. DH said it was very comfortable.

Why doesn't he sleep in his own bed?

(Assuming we get a private room, of course.) We're having a c-section this time, and DH is having flashbacks to his horrible experience with their pullout chair with DD1.
