I understand symbolic perfectly well. The symbolism is wrong, both factually and tacticly.

The name of the movement is "Occupy Wall Street". The symbolic importance of the New York Stock Exchange to Wall Street should be clear to even the least perceptive among us.

Um, the stock exchange is just a marketplace. Traders didn't design credit default swaps. Hell, they didn't even trade them. Certainly not on the NYSE. That, actually, was part of the problem -- the lack of transparency.

You might take the time to actually understand how these things worked before you get up in arms over this. The stock exchange didn't cause the financial crisis, the banks did, and if you think they are synonymous, you are wrong.

You may want to take the time to actually understand the term "symbolic" before you get up in arms.

I understand the term symbolic perfectly well, Jeff. My point is the symbolism is wrong, both factually and from a messaging standpoint.

How dense are you? He just said that it's not about the exchange. "Wall Street" is generally used to refer to a business district that includes not only traders but - duh - investment banks, and even more commonly to refer to that segment of the economy.

Why don't you just complain that a NYC thoroughfare never did anything to offend someone? When there's a march on Washington, to you complain that the city council and the mayor have no influence over federal policy?

When a bunch of people identify themselves as being in the bottom 99% economically and stage a demonstration at the financial capital of the world, you have to be about as dense as you not to get the message that they are complaining about economic inequality and oligarchy. The Tea Party had no geographic focus and a nonsensical name, and we had no trouble understanding that they were complaining about spending by black Democratic presidents.

Worse still, the Dems don't control them and so we really don't need to take responsibility for them. They aren't like the Tea Party, they aren't running for office on the Republican ticket.

So bring it. Every post full of anger and loathing lets us know that OWS is doing a great job. Every time someone writes a real zinger, it makes me want to write a check. Let me know if you want it handed to that guy you think is too lazy to get a job, or the trust funder who you believe will never work a day in his life. I don't care, I'm sure the money will be put to good use.

Actually, I'm on YOUR side and incredibly annoyed by you. Also, I find your comparison of yourself to Civil Rights and anti-Vietnam protestors to be a delusion of grandeur.

OWS has suffered from #messagefail ever since it decided it was angry at the banks and showcased that by ... protesting the stock exchange. The hell?

As I am not an OWS protestor, I have compared myself to no one. #messagebounced
