Agree with many of the above, especially the Wheaton suggestions. We also frequently head to Chevy Chase DC (Bread & Chocolate for brunch) or to downtown Bethesda for eating out.

Be sure to check out the farmers' market next Saturday am (if you didn't today), which has a lot more prepared foods now available. You can pick up BBQ or paella, plus yummy desserts, to take home for lunch or dinner. Welcome to the area -- we really like living in Kensington and I hope you will too!

Also the people who own black market bistro also own other restaurants in the area with various themes. I have to say I love them all and wish they'd adopt me.

I forgot to mention that I did try Black Market Bistro already. Excellent food and quaint charm with post office and all. Definite plus.

For sandwiches/soup try kensington mart next to Johnson's flowers. There's also suburban trading company there for prepared stuff.

China Gourmet is much better and cheaper Chinese food.

Hong Kong is OK, but most people I know just get carry-out there. China Gourmet, in the shopping center at University and Connecticut, has a little bit more ambience. Savannah's is nearby, too, but I can't stand the smell of the place. As noted in the other Kensington thread, Kensington is severely lacking in restaurants. There are a couple of little ones in the Howard Avenue area. If you want good eatin', head up to Wheaton. Nava Thai, Dusit Thai, Cristina's, Full Key, Irene's Pupusas, Woomi. Royal Mile for interesting beer, Ledo's for pizza. There is a nice restaurant buried in Garrett Park (which is kind of Kensington...but don't tell that to Garrett Parkers!) - Black Market Bistro. And there's a new trattoria in the old Forest Glen Country Store space - haven't been there yet. Lobby for more restaurants in Kensington!

Can anyone recommend places to eat around Kensington? Just moving in and need to know where to go.

We tried Chipotle (yes it's a chain, and thankfully the same as others) and Continental Pizza (the subs were not bad).

Is the Chinese place next to Continental Pizza any good? Hong Kong something...

Any other suggestions?
