He was blathering on today with some speech about this country being one community, under one something or other, under one church, etc.

ONE CHURCH?

Then he went on to say how he wanted to teach black people self-respect through work instead of teaching them to take other people's money.

HUH?!

The bigotry, the ignorance, the arrogance, the condescension...

You need to link to actual quotes because what you think he said actually isn't what he said. Your rabid dislike is affecting your hearing.

OP here, I hate the man too. I am African American, but I also lost a child, and I am tired of hearing people talk about what behavior is "normal" in the most bizarre circumstance I have ever experienced. The death of a child is what is weird to me, any reaction can follow. Mr. Robinson apologized, and I believe that he regretted his comments. The Santorums have so many other issues to criticize, why did he need to go tackle this one?
BTW, many family members found my reactions to be weird, I no longer speak to them.

She didn't have a miscarriage or terminate. The baby lived 2 hours after birth.

What is so wrong with disabled?

Don't think that's quite accurate:

It's 2012. Perhaps you've noticed.

Agree that it's no one's business but the family's

But, if the Obamas has done the same thing, it would be ripped apart on Faux News.

I haven't seen the video of Santorum telling the story so I don't know what I think specifically about that - but I get really tired of politicians exploiting sad stories about their children. Still remember Al Gore talking about his son being hit by a car at the Democratic Convention (I think that is where it was).

They actually did an interuterine surgery on the baby in the hopes of saving him. Complications made her go into labor at 20 wks after the surgery. Like the PP said, there are a lot of other things to nail him on, not sure that this is the one.

I grew up in rural Ireland. My village didn't have a funeral home until about 10 years ago. Everyone was waked on their couch at home. From babies to grannies it really didn't matter how/where/why you died you were kept at home. In the case of a severe disfiguring type accident then you were put right into the coffin and kept at church.

I do think it's a bit strange, but I agree that it's not an appropriate area of criticism. It's a heartwrenching story, and a terrible time for the fmily - how they dealt with their grief is their business, not any else's. Period.

There are so many other things to criticize Santorum for - to start with, the fact that he's elevated homophobia to an art form - I have no idea why how they dealt with grief in a terrible time is of interest to anyone.

When he criticized the Santorum family about how they handled the death of their son.
The Santorums deserve a TEEENY bit of respect during these moments. And FWIW, I did not find bringing the body of their dead son home to be strange. I think if more people were given the "freedom" to do that kind of thing, we might get through tough times with less stress.
