I'm kind of worried about Allie Brosh, the author of H&aH. I only started thinking about it when the Bloggess posted her depression story, but H&aH hasn't had a new post since HER (very funny and very sad) depression story back in October.

Allie's last post was very sad - I hope she's doing well as I very much enjoy her posts.

That being said, she always seems to be a bit manic/depressed (if you read all the way back). I bet she's just very invested in her book (I hope).

I have a close relative who really "gets into" the lives of selected bloggers. Gets really, really empathetic and cares so much about what happens to the woman in the computer that she has to update the rest of the family periodically.

I guess I am technically a little judgey -- in that I wish my relative would instead expend all that mental energy on a local person she could actually help / a soup kitchen. But mostly, honestly, I just don't understand this near-compulsion to follow the life of an non-extraordinary mere mortal you'll never meet.

Yeah, I thought the first many-month absence was because of the book. But then there was the depression post. And then nothing.

I think of Heather at The Spohrs are Multiplying every day. She lost her daughter Maddie in 2009 and she is very open about her struggles with grief and things are still very hard for her. Whenever she posts about missing her daughter I worry and my heart feels like it's breaking for her.

If you are worried about Allie, drop her an email and say you miss her posts and hope she's doing well. I am a blogger myself and there's a reason we put our lives online: to reach out to people. It's always nice when they reach back.

I get very involved in blogs I read and I do worry about authors when bad things happen and I enjoy reading when good things happen and I guess it's a little odd since I don't know them. I am not familiar with the blog you mentioned.

I think it's perfectly normal.

Before blogs existed, I got very worried about my favorite author. She released a short story collection that was full of incredibly grim themes--stuff that had been present in previous works, but was now in the forefront.
