Omg, I am 14:12, I am so hungry right now! Meatballs, sauce from franks sunny Italy, pizza, roast beef, sponge candy.... Yum! You can get sponge candy at wegmans. I don't know about the cheese but I will ask my dad, he may know.

No, not talking about curd, the cheese I am looking for looks just like cheddar cheese and slices like cheddar cheese but is not cheddar cheese.

I would also kill for a good beef on week (and chocolate covered sponge candy and real wings and a great meatball parm, etc). There used to be that Taste of Buffalo carryout in Georgetown that had it but I haven't found it anyplace else.

My parents live on Lake Keuka in Steuben County. Not wny technically but close enough. You're not talking about curd, are you? I love the plain but it comes in tons of flavor including garlic and horseradish. I really don't think you're talking about curd but I love curd so just had to share. Hope you find out what it is.

PS I could kill for a beef on weck right about now!

OP here. I grew up there in the 70s and 80s, near NT, N-W, Sanborn. The cheese I am remembering was purchased in delis and was cut off a larger block, so it looked like a flat slab of cheese, about 5" x 8" then would be cubed for munching or sliced for cheese and crackers. It had such a distinct taste and I have never found it again. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called. It was white, not yellow.

Ditto from Buffalo area and I grew up on government cheese, flour, butter, and peanut butter, plus food stamps and free breakfasts and lunches.

OP - what decade are you talking about? Need more info.

I am from near Buffalo (Town of Tonawanda) and I have never hear of that... I do have fond memories of the large rectangle boxes of government cheese that my grandmother used to pass on to us It is the change it weather- your natural inclination to 'bulk up' up for the winter is kicking in!

I spent my childhood near Buffalo and I am jonesing for a cheese that everyone used to eat there but I can't remember the name. It was sold in slabs like cheddar cheese (not perfectly packaged rectangles) and was often cut up into cubes and put out with toothpicks for people to eat as hors d'oeuvres or snacks while playing 'nochle. It had a unique taste -- very sharp with almost a garlic aftertaste. Any ideas???
