I wanted to resurrect this thread to ask the PPs who were happy with their reglazing jobs, which company you used. We have an original to the house cast iron tub that we would like to have refinished and are looking for recommendations. TIA!

We had our 1940s tub reglazed - yes, you can replace the tub for the same cost as the reglazing but only if you replace with a fiberglass tub. You will NOT be getting another cast iron tub for $300!!!

We had our whole bathroom done - we had white tile with black accents and they did everything to white, the tub and 4 tiled walls. The tile was in good condition so this was the way to go for us - instant update for a fraction of renovating the whole bathroom (we did replace the floor tile and vanity).

We have had some chipping in the tub but I attribute this to the fact that this is where we bathe our two small kids, and they are always dropping shampoo bottles and toy boats and whatnot in the tub. I think if grownups used it the chipping would not be so likely to occur. In any event, it's not noticeable and if we ever sell the house we'll just reglaze again.

it really depends on your budget and what you are looking for. Obviously the best long terms solution is to replace the tub. But truth is it isn't cheap and not alway in the budget. We reglazed the tub in our condo. It cost $500 and 3 years later had no peeling issues. It did however have a chip from when my husband dropped something heavy (metal toothbrush holder/cup) in there.

I was and still am very happy with the reglazing.

I am the PP. Miracle Method in Kensington gives a 5 year warranty.

We had our pink tub reglazed as well! We used Miracle Method in Kensington. Mary Ann O'Hara owns the company. She was professional and I have been really happy with the result. I have seen bad reglazing jobs. If the total job is less than $500 for a tub and a surround, it is probably not going to be a good job. For us, paying Miracle method $800 for the tub and surround was a much better option than paying to rip out the tub and all the tile, which is set in concrete (as was most tile done at that time).

we had our tub reglazed earlier this year as part of a bathroom remodel.

important questions to ask:
1. what is the process they use - if you google this there are different processes that are used.
2. how long have they been doing this
3. what type of warranty do they offer
4. what is involved in the reglazing process (how are they going to vent, how long are you going to be without the tub)

the company our contractor used gave a 2 year warranty - which I think is less than industry standard.

We just bought an older home where the tub had obviously been reglazed. We didn't discover that until the whole bottom of the tub started flaking off two months after we bought it.

It was part of the larger remodel, so I'm not sure. It took almost a full day, so I'd imagine it was whatever a full day of labor was billed at. Also, if you aren't replacing your tub surround, I'd be worried that the process would damage your existing tile.

We had our original, ca 40s cast iron tub reglazed. It lasted for about two years before it started chipping - and there was one spot on the corner that was never as smooth as it could have been. The roughness of the texture looked like dirt so I was never really happy with the results. I have no idea how much it would cost to replace the tub, but I seem to remember paying around 400 bucks or so for the reglazing. Wouldn't do it again unless I had no other choice.

If you had a bathtub reglazed, I'd like to hear about it, how long it last or did it start chipping after a couple of years? How difficult or expensive is it to replace a standatd size tub?
