I had no period for six months, and then got three regular periods and two briefer ones. It's been a couple months since the last one. I went to my OB, and she did an ultrasound just in case and took some tests. It turns out that I still am producing estrogen in a very small amount, so that explains the periods. I have to say that I felt GREAT when I had those periods. Much better than I did in the previous six months. Now I'm back to being tired and menopause-y, meaning weird moods, unable to sleep well and always out of sorts. The ultrasound showed nothing irregular, but it's always best to check.

Me exactly. My surprise came when I was 42; she's now 5. Best surprise ever!

OP here. I had to find this thread because I am not finally going to the doctor - of course it took a 2nd period in 5 months to trigger the call. Ugh. No period for 2 years and now 2 in five months. I really think it is my body's swan song, but checking it out with the doctor just to validate.

f you are post menopausal, you really should see a dr. It could be a sign of a serious problem. Otherwise, it could be your bodies swan song!

This. It is probably nothing, but better to be safe and check it out.

your period goes nuts, it can come twice in the same month, always carry your pads, and feel lucky to have a period because it means your bones are still protected and your skin, nails and hair are still growing

I didn't have a period for 4 years. Then had a surprise pregnancy. I guess I should have determined that the no period did not mean no getting pregnant. But it was a happy surprise. Then DH had the V.

OP--I would suggest that you go to your GYN just to be on the safe side. Last July I had what I thought was a "rogue" period after about a year of menopause. Turns out, I had an early stage endometrial cancer. This cancer can be sneaky--I had so few symptoms. One of the biggest symptoms is post-menopausal bleeding.

OP here - I am 47; however, started menopause early. I haven't had a period since Jan 2010 so this came as a surprise. I started feeling crampy and then Happy New Years! I will bring it up to my OB/GYN although I feel that it is simply my body's swan song

How old are you? I just had a heavy period at age 52 that tried its best to ruin Christmas.

Wow - I now understand how a woman can unexpectedly get pregnant at an advanced age! (TG my DH had a V). Anyway, after 2 years of no periods, today I started feeling crampy and today I started bleeding. WTF! Ugh.
