Actually, check out the Washington Post real estate section for sales. They actually get the county records so they're more accurate. Zillow doesn't always use the county sales record...sometimes they use info from MLS and that information is the listing, not the final sales price. I'm not sure where else zillow gets their data, but I've found times that Zillow does not match either the county or WaPo sites and I trust zillow the least of the three.

I'd rather you look it up than to ask. I hate when people ask.

Because I'm not a Zillow stalker, I don't know anything about it.

Does it give you the actual price they paid for the home or just an estimate?

21:18, OP here. I think that is partially why I do it also. I just want to know what I'm walking into for some reason. As if you could prepare in some way? Kind of silly but that is the mindset.

I am pretty judgmental but I think this is a step too far and one of the most disgusting habits I have ever heard. I know a friend that admitted to me she does it and I was totally horrified.

Me too. I do it partly so I won't be blown away when I enter their 2 mil house..... So I know what to expect.

Guilty also. I always feel crappy afterwards but I can't help doing it over and over again.

yeah, i do this too... no shame about it, though. It gives me good insight on the market. I also frequent open houses even though I'm not buying another property anytime soon.

If it makes you feel better, I do something worse...I check out those sites that list foreclosures to see which of my neighbors are going to lose their house...it's sad

I do the same. Or, if someone sends me a change of address card, I check it out. It's public info, just now it's easier to access thanks to the internet. Doesn't really make me feel gross, but maybe I have no morals.

...the first time I visit, or see their address. It's so easy to do, and I just feel gross about it. I swear it isn't out of snobbery just nosiness.
