This could work in a different direction, putting upward pressure on the salary offer if the company wants to make their offer attractive enough that you take the job. An applicant of some wealth will not be enticed by a small salary.

PP here. Rings of this size and larger are not uncommon in BigLaw - assuming you are talking about among the lawyers. I would be slightly surprised if someone just out of law school came in with a ring that size, but that is also contextual. If the resume showed private school/all Ivy, I would be less surprised.

The Birkin bags are what surpise me, and yes I do see them, especially among BigLaw lawyers in NY.

I interview frequently in a conservative, non-profit environment. If the ring is reasonably understated in terms of setting, I would notice it but wouldn't attribute anything consciously to it. If you fidgeted with it, commented on it, or if it's 3 carats TW rather than solitaire (which can to me look more "bling-y" than not), I would have concerns that you were drawing more attention to the accessory than to your skill set. I think you should ask yourself if the ring will contribute to the kind of impression that will achieve your objective. It all depends on the people who are interviewing you. Are they likely to be impressed or annoyed by the ring? It's really a delicate balancing act that may involve surreptitious slipping on/off. My guess, not having any information about the job you're applying for, but more information than you realize you've provided about you, is that you should keep the ring on. It'll be fun to see how that works out.

Not as long as you are interviewing for a position where that sort of thing is more normal than not. BigLaw, finance, certain fashion jobs, etc. Or senior exec position where you are expected to be established. It is a context sort of thing. It also depends on with whom you are meeting.

I know the rule is "no bling." However, I usually wear my ring. Do I have to take it off for the interview?
