OP, just go with SSSA or Burgundy Farm, depending on your proclivities. Both offer great things that are completely different from each other.
Something like, say, Beauvoir is so, so, so not worth THAT commute over a SSSA, for a 7 year old.
We live in Alexandria and our DD goes to Beauvoir. I can say without hesitation that her experience at Beauvoir has been well worth the commute. It's about 30-35 minutes in the morning and about 20-25 in the afternoon (Rock Creek runs the right direction in the afternoon). I don't know the exact number, but I know of at least 6 families in Old Town alone with kids at Beauvoir, and additional families with kids at STA and NCS, so it's not an uncommon commute. There are also a number of carpools, and the kids seem to become friends with their Alexandria classmates. One very nice Alexandria family hosted a get together for all Old Town (maybe all Alexandria, I don't know) families. It's a nice, welcoming group.
