Reporters tracked Ms. Badger down in her hospital room? That is low.

Latest I read is that the couple put embers from the fireplace in a bucket and left it in the hall and then went to bed and that's what caused the fire.

This reminds me of how dh always acts like I'm such a nervous nellie about things like this (in addition to leaving soup on low on the stove while out of the house). It's so irritating because I have to be tough enough to say or do something in spite of his attitude when it's easier to go along with him. It's like the "cool" police are going to show up and give him a ticket for worrying too much, which isn't cool. Drives me crazy.

Sounds like the grandfather died trying to save his grandchildren. So sad...

I saw this article this morning. Can't stop thinking about it, can't even imagine the loss this woman is experiencing. Makes me hold my loved ones tighter tonight. Makes me even grateful for MIL extended visit!

Why is this posted on a DC message forum? Did you remember to also post on the Berkeley Parents Network and Seattle Moms, too?

NP here: they're going to investigate, but the house was being renovated, so maybe it was something to do with that.

Very, very tragic. Just heartbreaking.

The cause hasn't yet been released although the reports are that the in-process renovations were not the initial cause (but may have contributed to the spread of fire).

Very sad. Was it Christmas tree lights that started the blaze?

Some may have heard about this already, but my heart broke when I read about an advertising executive's tragic loss Christmas morning: a house fire that killed her parents and three children (twins and an older child all under 10). Her parents would have celebrated their 49th anniversary today; they were visiting for the holiday (and her dad had been Santa at Saks on Fifth). This article doesn't include the words she kept screaming "My whole life is in there."

Posting this is my way of hoping to encourage prayer for the victims and Ms. Badger and her husband (separated at this time). So very very sad.
