I was raised Christian and my DH is a practicing Christian and so are my children, but this is SO OFFENSIVE! How do you know others "fall into varrying degrees of error?" I know your church tells you so and I'm sure you do really believe this but it's central to what I am offended by with all religions! Why don't you just focus on your own belief without worrying about others being "in error." The "they TRY to worship him" is so offensive! Like its some kind of competition. Whatever people who belong to a formal religion think...if there is a god that god is the god of everyone and everyone can worship "him." God will find a way to everyone regardless of what religion you practice. This exclusive smug assurance represents everything I dislike about organized religion. Every religion thinks it has its own special monopoly on god and that just can't be!

They aren't atheism lite. Goodness. Everyone believes in whatever helps them get through the day and make sense of the world around them. It's not like there is an actual mathematical proof for any of it. It's really each person's business - not sure why you care so much. Actions are more important than what someone simply believes.

And it's Hindu, not Hindoo.

How is that intolerant? If she believed Jesus was a deity, she would be Christian, not Jewish.

But I think those that have a more liberal view of religion (as in, there are many ways to seek God and not only 1 true right way) see the earlier comment as obnoxious. I'm in the latter camp.

On a side note - wow. 613 commandments. That is daunting to even think about. 10 are hard enough to truly follow!

Jew here: why would this be sarcastic? Isn't this essentially what Christians believe? And wouldn't Muslims believe the same thing (that they worship God, and that others try to do so, but do so incorrectly)? Jews wouldn't believe this, because non-Jews aren't required to follow all 613 commandments--they just have to hit the first ten, which, I believe, Christians and Muslims satisfy (with some uneasiness about the Trinity and the First Commandment).

Yes, they are the same.

In a logical sense, anyone who worships God worships the same God, because the term "God" refers to a Supreme Being, and by definition, there can be only one.

But the God of Abraham is God for Christians, Jews, and Muslims. They differ in their faith in the divinity of Jesus, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity.

As a Jew, I believe there is only one G-d. However, I do not recognize that deity to be Jesus, or Jesus to be that deity. I do not believe that G-d walked around on earth in human form for 33 years and then was "killed" and "reborn" or whatever the mythology is. I am an admittedly pretty relaxed Christian and very open religiously. Others I know take their religion much more seriously. If you're in the latter camp, do you see the God that Christians worship being the same as the God that Jews worship? It would make it interesting if posters note if they are Christian or Jewish when posting the reply.

I always thought of the 2 religions as worshiping the same God, but obviously seeing Him and compliance with His expectations in different ways. So basically that we both believed in the same God but have different views about his nature. At a small child's level of understanding in particular I would think that the similarities are pretty strong with the primary difference being Christians believing in Jesus's holiness (as a part of God) as well. Anyway, recently I've been told by multiple people though that they are different Gods, so I'm curious what others think.
