I would also say to stay away from kid bedding and, if you don't want a neutral, go towards a more boyish color scheme. (Blue is just more universal than pink.) How about the bedding from restoration hardware?

It isn't that tropical, but the linen bedcovers should be cool enough for that climate. We used this in a vacation home on the Chesapeake and assessorized with vintage posters and handmade toys that will be easy to change out as the kids grow.

Good luck and don't worry about the haters.

I always shared a room with my brother and once we moved to twin beds we kept the same comforter until college.

Mine were the alphabet, my brother had the transportation themed one - I still remember he thought it was Monopoly themed *tee hee*. Obviously it was an older collection so the colors were a little different but you get the idea...

The sheets were just plain color to go with it...

I agree with keeping away from kid themed stuff. We did that in a vacation house and it didn't take long before they's outgrown it - and it hadn't really been used that much since it's a second home.

I'd go with the white sheets and something bright for a comforter and sham. Try serena and lily for good ideas.

I'm not big into "kids decor". Eventually your kids will get older and will want something more sophisticated. Sheets usually last longer than their interests.

I think I'd go with blue and white, as it just has a beach/ocean feel to me. And crisp white cotton is just nice in warm climates. And can be bleached.

LL Bean has compass rose quilt and shams and starfish sheets:

OP here, I don't understand why this can't be a real post to some people. People post on here all the time about "help me pick a color for my playroom" or whatever it might be. Just because you don't care doesn't mean it's not real, don't click on it.

Thank you for the ideas.

pottery barn kids has an elephant print - comes in neon green, pink, and purple. maybe green would do, if the boy is young enough?

also, many prayers as you make this difficulty decision.

I need to find bedding for two twin beds in our children's room in our tropical vacation home. I don't want it to be overly tacky children's print. When I sent this one to DH he said "this doesn't look like a children's room"

I am thinking about going to some place like Calico Corner and having something made.
