Hi OP - I'm the PP that's in the same boat as you. I found a fertility monitor at CVS last night. They are an investment: $200 for the monitor, $50 for the 30 additional strips. You can find one online for $50 less (target.com) but I didn't have the time b/c wanted to start this cycle.

I read the directions last night and it is my understanding you can start the monitor at a later day in your cycle, as long as you're still within the 4-5 first days of it. Normally, you start the monitor on your first day -- but testing doesn't start until the 10th day (or so) so you are fine if you want to go buy one. Just be sure to program it as day 2, or whatever the day is for you.

Not the OP but I am in the same boat. I want to get a monitor very soon as my cycle is about to start - do I need to order one online or can I pick up at CVS? Does anyone know? I Just tried calling and the woman couldn't understand me .. she finally came back and said yes they did have it and that it's $55. I'm pretty sure that's not it because don't the monitors run more like $130?

For irregular periods, I highly recommend the Clearblue Easy fertility monitor. It's not cheap ($150, plus cost of sticks) but it's worth it. You use the monitor throughout your cycle, peeing on sticks when it asks you to and it analyzes them. Big help. Tells you when to have sex, basically.

Knowing the length of your cycle won't tell you when you ovulate. Fertility Friend works from your morning temps. It's okay if your cycle length varies but you will need to use OPKs as 14:38 says.

You should buy an at home ovulation tester, I use the ClearBlue Digital ones, then test everyday starting at day 10 until you get a positive indicator. I am very irregular as well but have been able to pinpoint my ovulation using these tests. You will have to spend more $ since you may need to test 10+ days until you ovulate, (I bought a pack of 20 for about $55 recently but they usually come in packs of 6-7). Good luck!

Having a hard time trying to determine when I am ovulating.

I think the issue with me is that my cycles are HIGHLY irregular.

From what I understand I should count from the start day of my last period and all the days in between until I start my period again the next month. I've kept pretty good record of this for the past year and if I am doing this right then my cycle lengths have been: 34 days long then 26, then 26, then 30, then 30, then 26, then 32 and now 37!!!

From all of the websites I have come across the ovulation calculator is only useful if you know your cycle length. Since mine seems to be random - how can I do this effectivly?
