I had a blocked tube removed as my first step in the IVF process. I have BCBS and they covered nearly everything.

I was able to conceive twice with only one tube. Both in the first month of trying.

@ 15:20- I pray that is the diagnosis. *smile* Like you said what EXACTLY would be th point of IUI?

OP, many insurances say "tubal factor" infertility is a kind of infertility- I'd guess with a blocked tube and history of TTC for so long you woudl be likely to get a diagnosis (and likely skip over the IUI since what would be the point)

I am curious if having one tube qualifies as infertility. I am more concerned about my insurance covering this. I kow my insurance covers infertility but only if it is medically necessary. I PRAY having one tube deems it medically necessary. I've never been pregnant and I have no clue how my tubed became blocked! Either way I pray my insurance covers all of this. We will find out soon enough! For the most part that is what I am most nervous about.

Same as 11:12...I lost a tube due to ectopic rupture. Three IUIs didn't work. Our first round of IVF did. Best of luck!

I had one tube due to an ectopic pregnancy. I'd been trying to get pregnant for 9 months. My doc (Widra) sugegsted I had a chance of about 4% each month of getting pregnant (and this is with a child already, so proven fertility). He said he doubted IUI would work, but I had a 70% with IVF. We did IVF (worked)

It is rather frustrating but on a positive note atleast I now know what my issue has been. Before Shady grove I had not a clue. I am rather anxious as to what his recommendation will be but. Its not too expensive for IUI and I do plan on going for it. I heard Femara doesn't have all the side effects that Clomid has but as I stated I will see what the Dr. recommends.

Yes, HSG. It's been awhile! Ugh. I'm sorry to hear that the one tube didn't clear. That must be frustrating -- okay, so you're past the HSG point. I'd go for the IUI, although there is probably no guarantee that any of the medication/hormones won't lead to similar pain upon ovulating. Also, I'm not sure but my sister's insurance didn't pay for her IUI and it turned out to be a lot cheaper out of pocket than they were expecting. I'd go for it! GL!

Did you mean HSG or HCG? I had the HSG performed and that is how I found out about the blocked tube. So that has been done and it didn't unblock the other one. It showed I only had one flowing tube. Congrats on the two healthy babies. I'll be glad when I am able to share a story with someone. *smile*

I forgot to add, my periods also became more regular and I was able to become pregnant on my own. Although that might not be the case in all situations, I would imagine having a clear tube might make any future experience you have with Clomid easier. It's just impossible to ovulate through a blocked tube whether you're ovulating naturally or via Clomid.

First off, get the blocked tube unblocked. It's a simple procedure (HCG?) and can work wonders. I have only one tube due to a surgery (they had to take ovary and tube due to malignancy) when I was younger. The remaining tube turned out to be blocked, so they cleared it out. I've had two healthy babies since!

I've been trying to concieve for about 2 1/2 yrs now and I recently made the decision to visit Shady Grove fertility. I did my work up and found out that I have a blocked tube, in addition to having short cycles that are irregular anywhere from 21-27 days. She basically comes whenever she feels like it. I am just wondering if anyone has dealt this with issue and if you went to Shady Grove what was your Dr.s treatment recommendation. About two yrs ago my OBGYN put me on Clomid (which I hated) the ovulation pain in addition to all the other side effects were just a mess I felt like a mad woman for 7 days and I seriously felt as if all my girlie parts were going to fall out. So I have been researching other meds besides clomid that may be available to me.

Also, I have UHC insurance. I am hoping they will cover the IUI procedure. Insurance is always funny!
