Hi,

My 11-month old needs a blood draw for a RAST allergy test and, after reading over previous comments on this forum, I have decided to take her to Sharrington ("Uncle Skinny") at the Children's Outpatient Center in Spring Valley or to an outpatient center at Inova Fairfax for a pediatric phlebotomist. I have called the former at 202-895-3860 and left three messages without a call back. I have also called Inova's Pediatric Specialists of Virginia – Fairfax, Prosperity at 703-876-2788, but they can't seem to direct me to the right place to make an appointment.

Would someone let me know how they made an appointment or if they just walked-in? What number/s did you call? Did either place have weekend hours? Where exactly did you go?

Thank you so much!

I can't remember the name of the guy that repeatedly did our poor little guy's vein blood draws (liver issues, fortunately now resolved), but we had a good experience there.

Sherrington is his name and my 12 month old did not even cry. He is amazing.

A big thank you for this information! I took my big chubby 12 month old DC to Sherrington yesterday for a blood draw and she did not even cry.

I second the outpatient center in spring valley. There is also an outpatient center at Shady Grove. Both are very good. I am sure you know this but I will repeat it. Make sure your little guy is very hydrated, as in push fluids. I give mine electrolyte water with a flavor. I feel your pain. Have been there many times. Good luck.

No, you don't. You can go to the lab anytime (and they are open Sa/Su from 10-2.) You just need to lab sheet so they know what tests need to be run.

Yep PP is correct, you can just walk in with the lab sheet, and when we went Saturday closer to 2:00 (I think we showed up at like 1:30) no one was there.

I found that LabCorp was better than my ped's office. I also found that Children's was the best, but I think you have to be getting your care at Children's to get your blood done there.
