Cheese sticks (get used to 'em!), almonds, hardboiled eggs.

If you have time to cook stuff to stock the fridge with, make a batch of little burgers either with turkey or ground beef. Also, deviled eggs, when you get tired of plain old boiled ones. It's pretty quick, if you shovel the filling into ziplock bag and cut a small corner off like a pastry bag.

And, frozen edamame from Trader Joe's. Make a dish of that before you settle in for nursing.

Part-skim mozzarella sticks are about as easy as it gets. I always had them in my purse when I was pregnant and my OB laughed that all her pregnant patients seemed to live on them.

This isn't so quick, but there are a number of pasta products that contain something like 17 grams of protein per 2 oz serving.

Unfortunately this chart is not online (I ripped it out of a nutrition magazine a while ago) but it says its source is the USDA National Nutrient Database:

3 oz cooked beef, chicken, or turkey: 25 grams protein
3 oz canned tuna: 21 grams protein
2 oz sliced turkey or ham: 10 grams protein
2 tablespoons peanut butter: 8 grams
1 cup cooked beans, peas, or lentils: 15 grams
1/2 cup cottage cheese: 15 grams
1 cup milk: 8 grams
1 ounce hard cheese: 7 grams
1 egg: 6 grams
1 cup kashi go lean cereal: 13 grams
1 cup cooked pasta: 8 grams
3 oz tofu: 7 grams
6 oz yogurt: 8 grams

sausage, like a really good sopressatta or sliced salami. It's not low fat but just a few slices with some cheese and whole grain crackers can really keep you going.

I'm at home with DS for a few more weeks of maternity leave and find myself eating nothing but carbs. I often feel like I don't have time to fix anything so I'll grab a bagel, toast, cereal, etc. Does anyone have advice on quick sources of protein I can eat throughout the day?
