There's no rule that says you have to tip, or that you have to give a gift at the Holidays. Do what feels right to you. If in doubt, bring her an inexpensive bottle of wine, or a box of decent chocolate. That's in addition to what you may already tip her for the services she provided. She'll be pleased that you even thought to do something additional, given that you're a new client. I'm sure some of her long-standing clients don't do anything. And if you still see her for appointments next year at this time, just give a nicer gift.

I would just tip her for a regular appointment, and if you keep using her continue to tip her generously.

I have an appt to get my haircut next weekend with a new hairdresser. This is only the second time I have seen her. The first time she did highlights and a cut. This time we're just doing a cut. What's the appropriate holiday tip since she's new to me (or does the fact that she's new to me not matter)? I want to be fair, but given how I feel like I'm basically bleeding money right now, I don't feel the need to be more generous than is appropriate. But again, whatever is appropriate and fair I am happy to do.
