Then try Eden Center, but the one in Culmore Shopping Center, Bailey Crossroads is also quite good. I frequent the one on Main Street (236) in Fairfax, just a bit east of Robert Road, on the left side, it is close to my work. I have been told that the original branch of Pho 75 has reopened, on Wilson Boulevard, up the hill from Rosslyn in a small strip shopping center, on the right, past the fire station. The soups will be fragrant, filling, very cheap, and often intriguing. Beef, mint, bean sprouts, brisket, tripe, chilies, and lemon, are among the ingredients that are in the soup already or can be mixed in. Vietnamese fast food. Blows McDonalds away. Should be a staple for us all. Why isn't it?
that's not soup...that just pasta in too much water.

i know what you mean! i think panera's soups depend... some taste yucky and canned, while others are ok.
if you're near annandale and like hearty korean soups, you should try picking up containers of pre-made soups from annandale catering. http://www.yelp.com/biz/annandale-catering-annandale
my family lives in maryland and will go out there to get a bunch of soups, freeze them, and thaw & heat as needed. the containers are fairly big.

FYI, Au Bon Pan and Panera are owned by the same company. I am like you and don't like canned soups. For future reference, Panera's soups are pretty good. Black Bean is my favorite.
Another option is Tabatchnick soups. they're in the frozen section of better grocery stores. They're nice to have around when a soup craving hits. The Matzoh Ball and Split Pea are decent.

Corner Bakery has some good soups -- I have tried and liked their Three Lentil Vegetable, Roasted Poblano Corn Chowder, and Loaded Baked Potato. If you are near a Rio Grande, their Tortilla Soup is very good.

OP here. Thanks for all of the tips! I actually ended up going to a local pizza place the other night and trying their Pasta e Fagioli (am I spelling that right?) soup on the advice of people from yelp and it was DELISH. Valentino's NY Pizzeria on the Alexandria/Annandale border on Little River Turnpike if anyone else wants to try. So filling, but very healthy too. Really good.

Why not just make several big batches of homemade soup? Restaurant soups (like canned soups) usually have a ton of salt, so you might want to keep an eye on that when pregnant. Soup is really easy to make & freeze and that way you can control the sodium and other ingredients.

I'm pregnant, picky, and craving soup. I have had this weird thing ever since I was a child about canned soup. I know that sounds weird but it just really grosses me out, particularly when there is meat involved. The Panera soups strike me as canned. Au Bon Pain's are actually not terrible. I haven't had Whole Foods soup in a while but remember thinking that I didn't like any of the ones I tried, the last time I had them. I felt like they were a little on the thin side.
I am 100% OBSESSED with this chicken and vegetable soup from Filomena in Georgetown, but I obviously can't go there every day.
Any soup options, preferably at fast or fast casual places where I could get take out for dinner? My favorite kinds are minestrone, baked potato, chicken/veg, veg, corn chowder...
