Our center is always closed the week between Christmas and New Years. My husband and I share the burden of taking days off that week.

Not at my current center but my former one closed for a long period at the holidays. You'll have the same issue once they hit school because of winter break.

I would ask for a holiday schedule; they really should have given that to you at the beginning. I don't think I could schedule our life without knowing in advance when I didn't have care for DS.

Yes, it's normal. And once you think about it, like the pp said, these are equivalent to paid holidays that most people get through work

They just have been telling us a few days before the holiday "Oh...BTW we are going to be closed on Monday for Veteran's Day." It is a wonderful center, and our little one LOVES it.....but this seems a little odd and very costly.

We pay the same rate whether daycare is closed for holidays. A week and a half closure does seem like quite a bit more than the norm, or at least the norm among the daycare we use and the ones our friends are using - our center is closed on the 26th and on New Year's Day and that's it.

It's completely normal and from what I can tell is standard practice.

Yes, the calendar is included in the contract and we were aware of all the holidays and time off. You pay the monthly fee as if there were no days off.

Unfortunately we were always charged for days that the center was closed, regardless of when. The key is that they let you know all of this before you sign on the dotted line, not that it makes it any easier!

Our daycare closes for all Federal holidays, as well as some religious holidays that we don't observe. We don't get any Federal holidays off of work, so this tends to be a big pain for us. Nevertheless, my question is that despite the numerous daycare holiday closings, we still have to pay the regularly weekly rate. The daycare is closed for a week and a half over the Christmas holiday, and we are still being charged. This is a LOT of money, plus a big pain because again, we don't have off this whole time. Does your daycare charge you for these vacation days? Thanks for your input! We are new to daycare so don't know how things usually work.
