What about decorated sugar cookies? Another choice are sandwich cookies. You can make any variety with a contrasting filling. Those are always the prettiest that I make.

I love how people think they can post to the internet asking for help and only get responses they deem acceptable-- not that my comment about prioritizing appearance over taste says anything about you if you did not set up the rules.

You might try the Washington Post archives for cookie recipes. Every year during this season the Food section publishes a lot of cookie recipes.

I also recommend allrecipes.com. I like this site because the user comments are detailed on what worked/didn't in a given recipe.

I hope you win the prize

Those are YOUR words. I simply said I've never heard of a cookie exchange where there was a cash prize. The ones I have been to were a little more simple, casual, and non-competitive. It was more about hanging out and tasting the cookies everyone brought. Good luck in your search for a cookie recipe.

The number one rule then shoudl be that whatever you submit for competition should be the one that gets passed out as well. there used to be a woman in my neighborhood that made these expensive intricately decorated cookies to with the "prize" and then made toll house cookies for everyone to take home

I agree-- and they judge appearance as more important than taste!?

Look at the earlier cookie thread on this forum for ideas... it's still on the first page.

Are you splitting up the cash with us? "Give me some ideas" is all you can say? No TIA?

Yeesh.

Last year I won our cookie exchange, crazy part is I had a baby a week earlier and I can't for the life of me remember what I brought. This year the winner takes home about $200 and above the cash I would really love to be the repeat winner. Give me some ideas. Judged on appearance first and taste second. (no fruit, jam or dried fruit in the cookies, I am not into that kind of thing)
