Although there are concerns DC might have undue influence on Congress, i think it would be negligible.
DC should have its proper senators and representatives, or be able to vote for say, maryland's congressmen
Besides, DC being a state isnt so far-fetched; Wyoming has less people that DC

I agree, but even more where the Senate seats are concerned. There will be "DC residents" coming out of the woodwork ready to run for the Senate.

I'm not sure what kind of point you think you're making of the fact that DC's population is "only" 600,000; it's still 600,000 people without Congressional representation. The entire state of Wyoming has less than that. North Dakota, Vermont, and Alaska, don't have that much more. Should their residents be deprived of representation too? Why does the mostly empty expanse of Wyoming "deserve to be its own state"?

Great idea! When can we expect the retrocession of North Dakota back into South Dakota?

1. When the colonies raised the issue of representation, it was about fairness, not efficiency.

2. A voting member would provide some leverage in the Committee on Oversight.

That wasn't the OP's point. The OP's point suggested that DC didn't deserve full representation to Congress. Personally I would be quite happy to have DC shifted back to Maryland. I don't need to have a separate state but I do want Senators and a fully enfranchised Representative.

Yeah, and it's written right in the Constitution that citizenship rights only go to communities that have honest politicians. That's why New Jersey and Louisiana don't have Senators....oh wait...

OP, you clearly don't understand what makes this country great - which is that people's political rights are protected regardless of whether they are nice, smart, or have good teeth and regardless of whether they happen to agree with you.

You are not a true patriot. If you were, you would get that.

That is an exaggeration, as I presume you know, and an insult, as I presume you intend.

You are exactly right. Any voting unit in the US that has elected a politician that does not meet your standards should lose its federal representation. Orange County California went bankrupt -- something DC has not done. Orange County should immediately lose federal voting rights. John Wayne Airport should be renamed Malcolm X Orange County Airport.

Similarly, Jefferson County, Alabama has just filed for bankruptcy. The county is full of big Republican donors. It should immediately lose its federal representation. Committees in Congress can be formed to oversee its affairs. I think Representatives from Maine, Massachusetts, and Hawaii would be good members of that committee and will have great insight on how to run the county.

Nothing would really change, but that doesn't mean DC shouldn't get representation. Every American should have representation in Congress. And no, every other city with 600,000 shouldn't be a state, they are already part of another state.

BTW, I'm a republican and live in Virginia, but I firmly believe that the citizens who live in DC should have a say in their own democracy, and should either become a state on their own or be re-incorporated into Maryland. I prefer their own state, but the other is a legitimate option just like Arlington went back to Virignia.
