I switched in middle school and hated it. My best year in school and socially was when I took a class at the boys school. I'm not sure I got along great with other girls before, but I certainly didn't walk away with any bestest friends. But, I get why my folks did it. They wanted me in a private non religious school and that was the only option. I still grew up ok and now have lots of girlfriends.

21:06 yes, definitely something we considered. I've thought of that and the school we are looking at had almost 50% new girls enter in 7th grade, which would be my dd's class so hopefully that wouldn't be such an issue.

I did and I hated it. But that is because it was hard to enter a very close-knit environment with girls who had known each other for many years.

Thank you all for posting. Seems like everyone found it to be a positive experience which is what I had hoped.

Loved it.... except during date dance and prom season since I never had dates. Otherwise it was awesome. Also, made me think all girls were smart!

ITA! In my experiences, being in an all-girls environment allows girls to participate more in school and leadership activities. It was a wonderful experience for me that I credit with helping give me the confidence in myself that I so desperately needed.

If so, how was it? This may occur for DD if we move overseas as country seems to prefer private, single sex schools. All of them are much smaller than her current jr high school. While I know it's a benefit, I'm pretty sure DD won't see it that way. I am planning to ask the schools which boy's school they partner with - I'm pretty sure they will do that but it doesn't appear that they have any classes together. Any advice for us on how to handle it?

We will take her for visits to several and may look at one coed school but the single sex schools seem stronger and we'd like it if she chose that option. TIA!
