8 week old fell out of the baby swing as I was preparing a bottle. All I heard from the kitchen was a THUD and immediately thought "No couldn't be...I'm sure I locked him down...". and then the wailing began. I ran over to find him face down on the floor. HORRIFIED is not even the word. I broke down, we were both crying and after I apologized and kissed him like 3,000 times, I called the Ped. She had me do a quick exam, said that "Babies bounce" and declared that he was probably fine (thank GOD he was).

It's a horrible, horrible feeling but fortunately most babies are resilient little beans.

I simply had to get out of the house when DS was 11 days old. Had him in a carrier and fell hard on ice. Fortunately I landed on my butt but I was positive I had just undone all the good work of pounding omega-3s for the 9 months prior.

Then he fell off our bed a few times, starting at 4 months. Now he crawls into walls on a regular basis. Fortunately his forehead feels padded

my (second) baby fell off the bed when she was 4-5 monts. i felt awful and hysterical. she was fine. it took a long time to get that "thump" sound out of my head. it's frightening and hard to forgive yourself for, but if you start telling people about it, you'll find (as above) that it has happened to many of us, and that our kids are a-okay. you are not a bad parent or person. things like that happen and it's okay. hang in there.

My 10 month old fell off the changing table/dresser just yesterday. Turned my back for 2 seconds, turned back around just in time to see him hit the floor. Back first thank goodness. Got him calmed down after about a minute (they are so resilient!) and then I started crying after thinking about all the bad things that could have happened. The stair story made me tear up again. I have banned my husband from telling the story at Thanksgiving.

DS rolled off of changing table around 5 months - was standing right next to him, just turned to the side trying to get a diaper in the diaper pail. He also fell out of his crib around 1 1/2 when DH forgot to put up the side. Fine both times, although I felt like the worst mom EVER after the changing table incident.

DD slid off the couch onto the carpeted floor when she was almost two while we were playing with her. About 2.5 feet high yet she broke her collarbone.

Felt like crappy parents for about two weeks...

DD fell off the changing table at 6mo, off the couch at 9, got her hand stuck at the gap in the elevator door at 13 months and just last week she tried jumping from my bed and fell on her face.

We're expecting #2 and I wonder what all this baby will suffer

This is why we have no memories from infanthood, so we can't remember all the awful things our parents did to us. Sorry, OP. I'm glad the bebay is okay.

our one year old fell down the stairs...sigh. DH and I had a miscommunication on who shut the baby gate. it happens, she was okay, always good to hear a loud wail. checked for bruises and bumps but she is fine. You can always take her to your ped if you are concerned.

When my son, at 9 months, fell off a chair, the pediatrician smiled and told me that their heads were designed to take the impact.

DS rolled off the couch at 5 months old. He also pulled a giant stereo speaker onto himself at about 15 months old (over at my in-laws very nonchildproofed house). He was fine. Took me and DH about 3 days to peel ourselves off the ceiling though. He's fine. You'll be fine. It's OK.

Here are a couple of stories. Our 2nd baby was 26 days old. I asked DH to take the 4-8 am "shift" on his own so I could finally get a couple of hours of uninterrupted sleep. They were in another room. At 6 am I awaken to a thump and DH going "oh my god!" He had fallen asleep and dropped DD from the couch onto the hardwood floors.

Our first daughter never fell off of the bed or anything but she did slip and fall into a planter at about 20 months which caused her to have a hole (literally a hole!) in her head. She got five stitches from that. I was with her and had been watching her like a hawk (or so I thought). I turned my back for one second and boom.

So, it happens to all of us. Both kids ended up in the emergency room and both were fine (aside from the stitches). The dr's there all told me there own stories of dropping their kids/their kids falling. And, they all told me how resilient kids are.

Try not to be too hard on yourself. I know I felt incredibly guilty for the longest time for both things and really, it didn't do anyone any good. :o)

My 10 month old had JUST started walking. We went upstairs to take his bath and usually he sits behind me while I start the water. Well, I'm an idiot. I turned on the water then turned around to pick him up and he was gone -- and I immediately hear "THUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMP!" my heart falls out of my ass and I run to the stairs and my baby boy is lying at the bottom of them looking up at me WAILING.

He was fine, obviously, but I was a mess. Everyone that I told had some version of the same story. That doesn't lessen the guilt tho! Glad your little one is OK!

Everyone's baby rolls off something and falls. Every child falls.

And our bed is high and we dont have carpetting. She's ok. I called the ped. I just feel so guilty. Does anyone else have any stories to make me feel like i am not the worst mother on earth?
