I said it before and will say it again. The GOP has too damn many litmus tests. You can't find a thinking leader willing to pledge all of them.

I think it is good that at least they are trying to address the labor gap in tech and in manual labor. But the red card piece really misses out in one big way. By allowing employers to hire and bring people over, we may get jobs filled. But true immigrants are people who take risks in order to seek a better life. We are successful because we attract those risk takers, because they are the type of people who produce. The red card program seeks to recruit people based on whether they can fill a job, not whetherbthey will be the most productive Americans.

Also there is another problem and that is abuse. These employers will effectively have the power to deport workers by firing them. Itbis bad enough in the world of h1b but in manual labor you could really expect employers to abuse the power.

Took me a while to understand Newt tonight, but this is the plan he has referred to. Does anyone have any further thoughts or analysis of this idea?
