Does anyone know of a before and aftercare program from Galway ES with transportation? This has been an exhausting and scary venture for a new parent in Montgomery County.

I would call the school office and see if they have programs that run transportation to and from Galway.

Montgomery Knolls is an excellent preK-2 school and has an after school care until 6:30 (you could drop your child at 8 and there are lots of parents waiting for the breakfast line to open up at 8:15).

In the Forest Glen area, some people I know use the Kensington-Forest Glen Child Care Center. It's on Dameron Drive, very near Holy Cross Hospital. I believe they have both before and after school care.

I live in Forest Glen area. My daughter has been in Boy's & girls club (after school care) for over a year now. This is an excellent after school care. The staff here are college graduated and are very professional. They have many activities for kids, especially all kinds of sports. They also offer homework help. If your kids are advance and school homework are too easy, the staff will give your kids more challenged work to do during the homework hour.

The fee is $95 per month. Pick up time is 7:30pm. Oakland terrace ES has bus stop to this after school care and McKenney Hills should also have bus stop for next year.

You can google for boy's & girls club for more informarion

Some SCES kids also take the bus to the Takoma Park Community Center and, I think, some other aftercares in TP.

Woodside Childcare Center looks nice. Is there bus service from schools further from Downtown Silver Spring to the center?

You could call Transportation and ask. You should be able to find info on this year's bus routes at the school website.

Also, MCPS Transportation will often add a stop if you ask.

It works very well - my son went there in kindergarten. He loved it there; the rooms are bright and cheer and the staff is good. They do lots of different things (he used to get mad when I picked him up early).

Woodside Childcare Center, in the Woodside church on Georgia Ave., has a great aftercare program (my kids liked it much better than the one onsite at school), and there is a bus from Sligo Creek ES to there every day. They do not provide before-care however.

The YMCA is another option. I don't know if they would let you do before-care only there, though. (Frankly I don't think their after-care program is very good.)

My daughter is starting at Sligo Creek (near the downtown Silver Spring are) in the fall and we are looking for before/after care options. The school does have one at the school and we are on the wait list but just wondered if anything else is out there. Thanks for any information!
