I don't like the marshmallow version, but I would not, if I were you, make anything but that if your husband is very attached to having that for Thanksgiving. Some dishes are sacred for the holiday.

For the imminent tuber task, though, I just went ahead and bought the damn marshmallows today. DH has been talking about his mother a lot lately, and it's not a fight I would have won. We've always made his family's recipes for Thanksgiving.
Fortunately, our hostess is a great cook who will have a lot of nice savory stuff prepared to counteract the glop.
