Yes yes I get that more spending is good, and less is bad and unpatriotic.
But looking at the numbers, it seems to me that this is not much at all.
The budget is currently at $703 billion (really $832 billion if you include the Department of Veterans Affairs).
Of that, about $553 billion is considered the base budget (not including the wars, which Republicans and Democrats eliminate from budget planning, nuclear programs, and defense related activities in other departments).
So if we cut $500 billion over ten years, we are talking about $50 billion a year, or 9%
9%!!
Seriously, THIS is the crippling budget cut that is so dangerous to our security? Gosh, we haven't seen numbers that low since... wow 2008. Gosh, remember when everyone was up in arms about how Bush wasn't spending enough to protect us back then? Oh wait....
