I understand Lars von Trier is one of those things you have to like if you want to be Intelligent, much like Proust and Kundera.

Kentucky Fried Movie is the worst.

While I have no doubt that Melancholia is a horrid movie (it won't even be on my Netflix list), you obviously never saw Freddy Got Fingered with Tom Green. THAT is the worst movie I have ever seen in my life and I can't imagine anything ever beating it. All I can say is that I saw it early in my relationship with the man who is now my DH - you know, when the butterflies are still in your stomach and you don't really care what you see as long as it means you can sit next to each other in the dark.

I remember seeing his movie with Bjork all those years ago...Dancer in the Dark or something like that - DH loved it but I hated it with all my heart, which is an unusual reaction for me. His movies can provoke extreme reactions.

If you don't want to see a depressive indie arthouse flick or a teenage movie, I have a suggestion for you. The latest Adam Sandler. I believe it's called "Jack and Jill". A real hoot, and a lot of fart jokes.

OP, what is the total number of movies you've seen in your entire life?

For me, Melancholia certainly wasn't the worst. Granted, it was far from the best, either, but it had some interesting cinematography (the opening and closing scenes were quite impressive) and some good acting jobs. And as far as von Trier is concerned, Melancholia is one of the least misanthropic of his works.

Please. What did you expect from Lars von Trier? You had no idea what you were getting into?

Haven't seen it. Never thought anything could compare with Taking Woodstock. AWFUL AWFUL movie.

I do not understand why all these critics praised it. It was horrid.
