I didn't realize I was supposed to socialize. I thought I was supposed to talk to the teachers about DS day and behavior and then get him out of their hair.

The fact is that day care drop off/pick up is just a hectic time. You're not going to be chit-chatting with folks if you are illegally parked outside or trying to rush home to feed your kid before bedtime (or, on the other end, trying to make a morning meeting). DH actually deals with the day care more, and the only time he's had to get to know any parent is when DS was in the infant room and parents would come to visit at lunch.

You should try being the daycare provider that has to put up with kids that get no discipline for doing something wrong. (by their parents). It makes me feel worthless when I try and try to teach the kids right from wrong, manners, etc and then mom walks in and doesnt follow through and correct their child for doing something they know they shouldnt be doing. I have kids who come in and will behave for me but the minute mom walks in, act up. I can tell them to stop doing whatever they are doing and they make this face at me, smirking, and do it again. mom sits there and does absolutely nothing. Nice huh? I cant wait til the day comes I can move far away and quit doing daycare. The times are a-changing because nobody years ago I did care for would dare treat me like that! Sad

RE: the laundry thing, the staff very nicely told her that though they had laundry machines, they were only for things like blankets and linens associated with the daycare and they couldn't do personal laundry because they would be innundated with requests from others parents.

I guess you could send out a letter to all the mommies stating that you went to "A fairly prestigious college"... Since they are the bitchy judgemental ones. Don't worry it's not you, it's them. They just don't get the awesomeness that is you.

I went to a fairly prestigious college. I've been friendly with several of the other parents at my kids daycare, talked at drop off and birthday parties, and only one of them has ever asked me where I went to school. And that question was after one of my kids wore a shirt from my husband's sec college football team that was the rival of that parent's alma mater.

Maybe they are actually trying to get to/from work with their child, talk to the providers to see how the day went then get home.

Are you trying to become friends in that time?

You do know you don't have to hang out at daycare, right?

Okay, I have to ask what was the reaction of the school with the laundry thing? That's NUTS!

How long do you spend at Daycare? My husband drops our son off in the AM and I pick him up in the evening -- takes 5 minutes. The other mothers and I say hello but...are we supposed to start a book club or something?

Yeah, I agree with the personal nanny thing. I've seen it so many times. I posted in another thread about how my old daycare had a mom that expected staff to do her LAUNDRY. She would show up with a bag of it. There was another mom who was SHOCKED that all the kids would play with all the toys, that her DD wouldn't have a personal stash, or couldn't set aside the ones she wanted to reserve them.

I don't get the first part of your complaint. I mean, our kids are all in daycare, so how fancy can we be? But I can relate to the second part. There are a couple if moms from my son's class who treat the teachers like their kid's personal nannies.

I have met so many cool mothers from daycare. But there are still so many who just think they are too cool for school. So tired of the people in this area who don't give you the time of day unless they know where you went to undergrad/grad school, who you are married to, who you know, or what you do. Then there are the ones who think their child is the only one who matters in the class. Um, hello? It's a DAYCARE.
