I visitmy daughter in NW DC often and would like to connect with a Mah Jong group on a drop in basis. She lives near Washingon Hebrew. I have a set if needed to play. Please contact me. Jkornblut@gmail.com

I'm the poster you referenced. I did find a few games on Meetup but they were Jewish/American Mahjong, not Chinese (not sure which your mom wants.). I'm in NoVA so wasn't looking in MoCo, but I'll bet the synagogues, JCC, maybe Hadassah have it.

My mom is 87 and lives in assisted living in Friendship Heights (Bethesda). She has been looking for Mahjong games, and was surprised to find out that no one in her building plays. Has the person who posted on 07/18/2012 found any games in the Montgomery County or Upper Northwest DC area?

NP here. Any idea on how to find Chinese mah jong groups (without being Chinese)? Meetup doesn't seem to have any. Thanks!

I was the OP of this thread in the fall -- my mom has since found a few groups here in NOVA thru the JCC -- I bet your mom could easily find some groups in Bethesda. Good luck!

If you have any inside scoop on where she can play American mah jong, preferably in the DC/Arlington/Alexandria area (but she'd probably travel within a reasonable distance!) -- please post! There are drop-in games at the JCCNV in Fairfax on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

She can post at http://www.MahJonggMatchUP.com , too
Your local parks and recreation will have weekly (or more often) games where she can meet players and then form a home game. Libraries and your local JCC will also most likely have games.
She can also post to TEACH players in your neighborhood to play and then form a group. So many women want to learn, but don't have anyone to instruct them!
