Midwesterner married to a Southerner. I have never had good cornbread stuffing, so that will NOT be on the menu. I would love to do pecan pie, but DH doesn't care for it. I think pumpkin pie is over-rated.

We don't know if we will be just the three of us for dinner, or 6, or 8 or 10. Makes the planning a little challenging!

Shrimp cocktail

dressing (out of the bird) with apples
maple butternut squash puree
baked apples
either brussels sprouts (either roasted or beer braised) or green bean casserole
cranberry chutney
corn spoon bread if we have enough people to need another dish

salad with apples, cranberries, pecans, cheese (goat or bleu....)

OP Here. I was wondering too about the slow cooker cranberries so I found a couple of recipes for it. Based on the reviews it seems to be effortless. You basically put everything in the crock pot and let it go with little or no attention. Having said that, I do believe the huge pot taking up my counter space would be an issue.

Not the cranberry in a crock pot PP, but why not? It frees up space on the stove. And we like our cranberry sauce warm, not cold.

I am curious about this too. Our recipe is fresh cranberries, water, orange juice and zest, and sugar, cooked stovetop until the cranberries pop. Sooo good and so easy and quick. Does doing it in a slow cooker take away any of the fresh cranberry taste?

Why on earth would you need to cook cranberries in a slow cooker? They take about 10 minutes on the stove and you can make them ahead of time.

So funny! We have always had it with Thanksgiving and Christmas!

I put an entire pumpkin pie in the trash last year! We will definitely have sweet potatoes. I usually have my great grandmother's but saw a great recipe in Saveur I am going to try. Mac and Cheese is a MUST!

HI All-

Just curious what was on your menu this year? DH and I are both Southerners. We will have the typical turkey, ham and cornbread dressing. My grandmother was completely insulted when I informed her , I was not making potato salad .

I will say I am a bit of a loss for desserts. DH's childhood best friend and his partner will be visiting from Texas. I asked them since I wanted to ensure I had something they like. The response I received was, "Whatever is fine-we always love what you cook!" So, I know I will make my Mother's chocolate meringue pie. So, any ideas? thank you!
