Reading Assistant software from scientific learning. I agree that Speech Therapy is also a good idea. They could try Visualizing and Verbalizing by Lindamood Bell as well.

Speech therapy can help with this.

We also helped my son with this by having him practice with reading comprehension workbooks. We also bought materials from Linguisystems and worked on inferencing and listening.

We also gave him as many books on his special interests that we could. This included many, many books on sharks and Martin Luther King and video game guides. The video game guides were especially useful because he was reading them for comprehension to help his game play.

A friend of mine across the country is trying to help her HFA/ AS DC improve in reading comprehension skills. He is 10 and reads fluently but tends to hone in on details in the reading selection and miss the main idea/overall picture. He also has problems with inferential skills. Does anyone have suggestions on books or methods that have worked in solving a similar problem?
