If it is a county program it is free of charge. Your son would need probably need to have a diagnosis and an IEP if he doesn't already have one. Definitely start asking the school counselor about the proper steps to take. Your kid needs to be in an environment that is tailored for his needs vs him struggling to keep up.

If you are in CC, you might be eligible for the program at Rosemary Hills:

I also came across this link:

Best of luck!

MCPS have a Autism Program. Not in every school but you may want to check it at "Carderock Springs Elementary School".

Do you have any type of advocate working with you? They may be able to help.

Don't know where you live, but is there a county program for autism offered through the public school system? It might be worth investigating and getting wait-listed if there isn't an opening.

If you have the $, a private, special needs school would probably be ideal.

My son with autism is 9 years old in grade 3 but it is too above for him that the school should modify every subject to grade 2/1 (of course after approving in his IEP) I think that may be it is better for him to return to the second grade but I am not sure what is the best for him. I hoped they tell me in his IEP meeting but they said to me today that it is up to principle to decide about the grade and since his ES is from 3d grade I have to change his school too. please help me to decide.
