You need to calm down. OP was wondering what to tell her husband. People mentioned that people up north where it is ALWAYS cold on Halloween trick or treat outdoors anyway and perhaps she should tell her husband that. Maybe you should read the entire thread?

Trick or treating is a great way to meet your neighbors. That's what I'd tell him. It fosters a sense of community. We live on a relatively busy street and get few trick or treaters but behind us is a great quiet street and we've met tons of people we wouldn't otherwise (yeah, we go down during other times but oohing over someone's kids costume is a conversation starter). I put thermals on under the kids costumes and pack a travel mug of hot cocoa that they can take a hit off of if they get cold. If it's too cold, cut it short but at least give it a try!

I appreciate the empathy. I grew up going out in my neighborhood and remember a few years when it was bone chilling cold here too. We dressed extra, no biggie.

I wasn't trying to DICTATE to my EX what to do.

I was simply asking if anyone had any suggestions of wording I could write to suggest that going to the mall alone isn't a great idea.

Ask him what he thinks kids north of here have done for years on halloween. I can tell you you does not involve going to a mall.

We do both. We (husband, me, DD) went to the mall trick or treating Wednesday night and you can best believe we'll be out on Halloween too. And if the weather wasnt going to be crummy tomorrow...we'd be at the outdoor mall trick or treating too. I freaking love Halloween.

I'm from Ohio, we didn't routinely get snow on Halloween but it wasn't totally foreign. I didn't care, when I was a kid I would have walked through a blizzard for free candy.

Agree completely. Mall trick or treating is LAME. Can you get some thermals or something for the kid to wear under the costume?

I agree with you. And depending on the mall, the stores run out of candy FAST so you have to get there early.

I agree with you. Part of the whole fun of trick or treating is going around your neighborhood.

But I lived in Buffalo, and a few years we had so much snow on halloween that kids would go trick or treating wearing snow parkas, and you would have to guess the costume based on the accessories they would be holding in their gloved hands.

My ex says it's too cold to walk around the neighborhood and wants to take the kids to the mall to go trick or treating.

I think this is LAME!

What do I say to try to convince him to try to take them at least part of the time neighborhood treating?

So much fun to see all the decorated houses and stuff...just taking them to stores in the mall is so stupid.
