That being said, I LOVE the area and don't worry about either of those things from a pollution aspect.
Georgetown, Arlington, Alexandria: all much, much closer to the airport therefore the planes are lower so noise and flight traffic might be an issue. My parents live in Carderock and it is lovely and quiet. I can't think of a time when airplane traffic is an issue. And fuel dumps, that's just nuts, no one is dumping fuel over populated areas anywhere near DC!
