OP never raised an issue with noise or air polution from airplanes. OP specifically mentioned freeways nearby. Those concers are legitimate. For example I would never buy a house on a major freeway.

Georgetown, Arlington, Alexandria: all much, much closer to the airport therefore the planes are lower so noise and flight traffic might be an issue. My parents live in Carderock and it is lovely and quiet. I can't think of a time when airplane traffic is an issue. And fuel dumps, that's just nuts, no one is dumping fuel over populated areas anywhere near DC!

I admit in advance--I'm going to be preachy here...This is one of the funnier posts on DC Urban Mom that I've ever read! And I assure you I'm Type A and concerned about a whole lot related to my kids' educations. My guess is that your kid(s) are not yet in elementary school because you don't yet know what REALLY to worry about.

We are considering moving into the Carderock area. The school looks great but its proximity to the freeway makes me nervous about the possible exposure to air pollution. Has any analysis or work been done to look at this?
