I am a special needs teacher with about a third of my kids who are autistic. My son alerted me to the segment and unfortunately I only caught the end, does anyone know how I can view the whole segment? I have an Ipad and have since the day I got it, have praised how helpful it is to special needs students. I have downloaded many aps that are ridiculously helpful.
I saw it and thought it was good. I don't think the target audience was special needs parents -- i.e., the general population probably isn't familiar with this. I really liked how they emphasized that even though the kids couldn't communicate, they still had a lot of knowledge. People often underestimate the intelligence of all special needs kids. I'm in favor of anything that shows special needs kids in a positive light.
Did anyone else see this tonight? A lot of it is stuff we as parents already know. However, I was quite surprised at the brain imaging being done at U Pitt and the difference in a "normal" brain and Temple Grandin's. I know they're still at the beginning stages of understanding the neuroscience behind Autism but this visual was, well, wow.
